Elaben Bhatt resigns as Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapeeth; Governor urged to succeed her

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Vidyapeeth in a press statement informed that “The governing council of Gujarat Vidyapith on Tuesday decided unanimously to invite state governor Acharya Devvrat to be the next chancellor”.

102 years old university for the first time will have a Non-Gandhian and a governor as its chancellor. the press release said that a Pratinidhi Mandal will meet the governor to extend the invitation. After accepting Devvrat will hold the post for a lifetime.

In a meeting that lasted more than four hours, the governing council of the deemed to be university accepted the resignation of Ela Bhatt. To honour her feelings Elaben’s resignation from the Chancellor post is accepted unanimously due to health reasons. Bhatt will officially step down on October 19.

If Acharya Devvrat accepts the request, he will become the 12th chancellor of the university, a post that has been held by Gandhiji, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr Rajendra Prasad, and Gandhians like Morarji Desai.
