Gujarat BJP coordination meet to make panels of suitable candidates

Gandhinagar: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold the coordination meeting from Thursday for further shortlisting of candidates for upcoming State assembly polls. It is likely to continue for three days.

The party started a three-day process of hearing for all 182 assembly seats and received suggestions for candidates from the local party units in the last week of October. The party had appointed observers for each seat for this hearing.

Over 4300 party workers have expressed a wish to contest the assembly poll and submitted their details. The applicants for party tickets this year are up by 1100 compared to previous State assembly polls in 2017. The highest 1490 biodata have been received in North Gujarat, 1163 in Saurashtra, 962 in Central Gujarat, and 725 in South Gujarat. After scrutiny by local party units, the shortlisted names have been sent to State parliamentary board by party observers.

The party leaders will sit for three days and further scrutinize and shortlist the names during detailed meetings. Party’s district leaders and observers will be asked to remain present when discussions on tickets for related districts take place. At the end of the meetings, three to five names for each assembly seat will be sent to the Central Parliamentary Board in Delhi. The final decision on the names of candidates will be taken in Delhi after which an announcement will be made. DeshGujarat
