Folk singer Devayat Khavad surrenders before Police in attempt to murder case

Rajkot: A rural Gujarati folk singer, accused of a crime under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder), Devayat Khavad surrendered himself before the Rajkot Police. Devayat and two other accused were booked for attacking a builder with a pipe. He presented himself in the crime branch after 10 days of committing the crime. Khavad has been arrested by ‘A’ division of Police. According to a police official, Khavad will be questioned and taken on remand to know the details about the other two accused in the attack case.
The two accused including musical artist Devayat Khavad had allegedly attacked a builder named Mayursinh Rana with a pipe on 7th December. The builder Mayursinh Rana had lately directly written a letter to the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) for justice. The accused Devayat Khavad presented himself in the crime branch today. Police have not identified the other two accused so far. The car which was used for the crime had no number plate. The Police will also investigate into this aspect.
The accused Devayat Khavad had made a plea for anticipatory bail in Rajkot sessions court after the video footage of the crime committed by him went viral. Police had made an affidavit not to give bail to him and stated Khavad’s criminal history in it. Khavad has been booked in 3 crimes, as stated in the affidavit. He was booked for violence in Chotila in 2015 under IPC section 325. He was booked in an attempt to murder in Muli in 2015. He was again booked in Arms Act in 2017 at Surendranagar B Division police station. The hearing of his plea of anticipatory bail is scheduled for tomorrow. However, his arrest has taken place today.
