News in brief from across Gujarat

-Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to provide a 10% annual rebate on the Vera charges per square meter of property tax in non-residential areas. In addition, a 50% rebate on fire charges will be given to the residents of Surat by SMC.

-Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurates a two-day workshop to train legislators of the Gujarat Assembly. According to Shankarbhai Chaudhary, Speaker of the state assembly, the workshop will see various sessions on over ten subjects. Various experts will address the sessions and guide the MLAs.

-The Rajkot Session Court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Gujarati folk singer Devayat Khavad and two others. Khavad had applied for bail after the police filed a chargesheet against him and the two other accused. They were booked under IPC section 307 for attacking a builder with a pipe, which amounts to an attempt to murder.

-A tragic accident occurred near Warahi of Patan, in which 6 people lost their lives due to a collision between a jeep and a truck. The jeep was destroyed, and the accident caused a traffic jam on the Santalpur highway. After the accident, all the affected people were rescued with the help of 108 emergency services for medical assistance and were sent to hospitals in Randhanpur.

-The ill-famous White House in the Danteshwar area of Vadodara was demolished today by teams from VMC & city survey superintendent’s office. The house had been constructed on government land by Sanjay Parmar and had been the subject of controversy and an offence regarding land grabbing. Three VMC employees had been arrested in connection with the offence of aiding in the land grabbing. The demolition work started in the morning and was completed by the afternoon.
