March 28, 2023
Morbi: Ajanta Manufacturing Pvt Ltd (Oreva Group), a clock manufacturer, stated in the Gujarat high court on Monday that it has deposited 50% of the interim compensation for victims of the Morbi bridge collapse and will deposit the remaining Rs 7.31 crore by April 11.
The high court had ordered the company to pay Rs 10 lakh compensation for each death and Rs 2 lakh for each injured person after the company had volunteered to pay damages as it managed the suspension bridge that collapsed on Oct 30, 2022.
The bridge collapsed, killing 135 people and injuring 56. A further hearing is scheduled for April 18. The company was made a respondent to a petition filed by a relative of two victims who demanded more substantial compensation. The court had ordered the company to deposit half of the compensation first and the rest in a cumulative FD in a nationalized bank. DeshGujarat
