Sabarmati: A police team from Uttar Pradesh, left Sabarmati Central Jail with gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed by road for Prayagraj in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case, said an official, today.

Umesh Pal and his two police security guards were shot dead in February 2022 outside his home in Prayagraj’s Dhoomanganj area. Based on a complaint filed by Pal’s wife, a case was registered against Ahmed, his brother, wife, sons, and others. Ahmed has been named in over 100 criminal cases, including the recent Umesh Pal murder case. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on March 28, along with two others, in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case. After the sentencing, Ahmed was brought back to Sabarmati jail in a UP police van on March 29.

Ahmed has been accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and assault of a real estate businessman while in jail and has moved the Supreme Court for protection, claiming that he may be killed in a fake encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police. DeshGujarat
