Atiq Ahmed’s wife had provided him SIM card and mobile in Sabarmati jail: UP Police
April 15, 2023
Sabarmati: Atiq Ahmed, a gangster-turned-politician who is currently in Uttar Pradesh, has admitted to being involved in the Umesh Pal murder case. The Uttar Pradesh Police stated in the remand note presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Prayagraj court on Thursday that Atiq’s wife had provided him sim and mobile phone in Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat.
This revelation creates questions regarding the lapses in Sabarmati Jail’s security arrangements.
According to the police note, it was revealed during questioning that Atiq’s wife, Shaista, was responsible for acquiring SIM cards and mobile phones when she visited Atiq and Ashraf. As both he and Ashraf were in jail, all the details regarding the cash, weapons, and men involved in the plot to murder Umesh Pal were conveyed to Shaista and Asad, as stated by Atiq in his statement to the police.
Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were sent to 14-day judicial custody and five-day police remand by the CJM Prayagraj in connection with the case.
Atiq’s son Asad Ahmed, who was wanted in the same case, was recently killed in an encounter with Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force in Jhansi along with his aide Ghulam. Umesh Pal was a witness in the murder case of former BSP MLA Raju Pal, and his murder occurred in Prayagraj in February. DeshGujarat
