Bharuch: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat Police today nabbed a class-1 officer in a bribe case. The accused Avdheshkant Kumar is 55 years old and works as Medical Superintendent in ESIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation) run hospital in Ankleshwar. He is originally from Delhi.

According to ACB, the accused demanded Rs. 2 lakh bribe and was held while accepting Rs. 1 lakh bribe amount today at Shalimar Hotel on Valiya Road in Ankleshwar.

ACB said, a complainant, in this case, is on administrative duty at Padmasiddha Hospital in Ankleshwar GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation estate). The hospital had signed MoU (memorandum of understanding) with ESIC  in the year 2022 under which the hospital requires to give treatment to the patients referred by ESIC. As per the MoU, the bills are paid to the hospital by ESIC. The hospital where the complainant worked had produced Rs. 4 crore worth bills. The middle agency UTI – ITSL had approved Rs. 28 lakh worth of bills for the last two months and they were physically produced before the accused medical superintendent.

As there was no payment made for the last two months, the complainant met with the superintendent. The accused medical superintendent demanded Rs. 2.50 lakh bribe to clear the payment. The complainant was told that a personal assistant namely Sonu will call from Delhi and the payment of the bribe has to be arranged as per his instructions.

After Sonu called the complainant, he made Rs. 50,000 payment in the State Bank of India account, and the rest of the amount – Rs. 2 lakh was to be paid in Hotel Shalimar at Ankleshwar GIDC physically. As the complainant didn’t wish to pay the bribe, ACB was contacted and a complaint was filed, following which the trap was arranged. The accused accepted Rs. 1 lakh bribe and asked for the rest Rs. 1 lakh sum to deposit in a bank account through ATM machine.

The accused Medical superintendent was nabbed on the spot and he was detained. After covid test, he would be formally arrested.  DeshGujarat
