94.90 pc women missing in Gujarat in last 5 years were found out later; State Police clarifies

Gandhinagar: Reacting to ‘incomplete’ and  ‘misleading’ news items in the newspaper, the Gujarat Police today went to its social media handles to clarify that 94.90 percent of total women who went missing in the last five years later returned home and they are living with their family.

A newspaper today quoting the figures of the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) published a news item that in the last five years, 41,000 women went missing in Gujarat. As per the standard practice, several other regional media entities further published the same story in different flavors. It’s worth noting that none of the media houses published the latter part of NCRB data on how many of missing women were found out later.

The State Police today clarified that the news item was incomplete and misleading. Gujarat Police further stated that, yes during 2016-2020, as many as 41,621 women went missing in Gujarat, but of them, 39,497 women (94.90%) were found out later and they are living with their families.

Gujarat Police in its clarification further stated that both these figures (missing and found out) are announced by NCRB which can be verified on the NCRB portal. The news items published in the section of media are incomplete and misleading. DeshGujarat
