Gujarat govt OKays Rs 70 crore for Cyclotron project at GCRI

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government has granted in-principle approval for the allotment of Rs 70 crore to start the Cyclotron project at The Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute which will as a result of the project generate radioactive substances to be used for cancer treatment.
The project will allow the production of radioactive substances that can be used for cancer treatment as needed. The project will require a utility building across 1000 square meters of land with five floors, including a cyclotron bunker and basement.
The Cyclotron for Nuclear Medicine project will be completed in around two years. It will allow for the diagnosis and treatment of approximately 16,000 cancer patients annually, which is four times more than the current capacity. The radioactive material will also be supplied to other GCRI hospitals in Rajkot, Sidhpur, and Bhavnagar.
The state government has also decided to start a Primary Health Center (PHC) in Khodiyar village of Daskroi taluka in Ahmedabad. DeshGujarat
