Severe to moderate heat wave conditions to continue in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: The weather forecast report from the India Meteorological Department stated that several districts in the state can expect the heat wave to continue in the coming days.
“Discomfort conditions due to high Temperature in the range of 42 to 44 0C over interior parts of Gujarat region & Saurashtra-Kutch and also hot & humid air over the coastal areas of Saurashtra-Kutch and South Gujarat region are very likely to prevail during the next 2 days, ” said IMD bulletin.
On May 12th, “Severe Heat wave conditions very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in the districts of Saurashtra and Gujarat region namely Porbandar, Junagadh and Surat. Heat wave conditions very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in the districts of Saurashtra namely Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath.”

Meteorological Centre in Ahmedabad has also issued an orange alert. The maximum temperature of the city is likely to remain around 44 degrees Celsius.
Impact: High temperature. Increased likelihood of heat illness symptoms in people who are either exposed to sun for a prolonged period or doing heavy work. High health concern for vulnerable people e.g. infants, elderly, people with chronic diseases.
Suggested actions : (a) Avoid heat exposure– keep cool. Avoid dehydration. (b) Drink sufficient water- even if not thirsty. (c) Use ORS, homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice ater), lemon water, buttermilk etc. to keep yourself hydrated. DeshGujarat
