Ahmedabad: Ukai dam over river Tapi has achieved the rule level prescribed for the period of upto 1st August. Ukai is the second largest dam in Gujarat and located in South Gujarat.
Against the rule level of 101.50 meters prescribed for the period upto 1st August, the dam is 101.50 m full at 10.00 pm today (30th July). The highest level in Ukai dam is 105.16 m. Against designed storage of 7414.29 MCM, the dam has 5421.65 mcm water storage at present. The dam is 73.12 percent full against full capacity. At 10 pm today, the inflow was in the size of 52,177 cusecs, while outflow was 22,536 cusecs.
After 1st August the prescribed rule level will be higher and therefore there shall be further possibility of filling up the dam with more water. Subsequently if there’s heavy rains in catchment areas of Maharashtra in the months of August and September, and if the level in Ukai is at its peak, the surplus water will be discharged in downstream river bed of Tapi, for which the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has been already communicated.
