Will contest Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat jointly with Congress: AAP chief

Gandhinagar: Conventionally, Sharad Pawar led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) only would discuss seat sharing with main opposition Congress party in Gujarat ahead of Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha polls, however now Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party is also hopeful for seat sharing with Congress for upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Isudan Gadhvi, president of Gujarat unit of AAP today said the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party will jointly contest upcoming Lok Sabha elections against ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in order to defeat it. He went no to say that AAP and Congress jointly will not allow BJP to win all 26 out of 26 seats in Gujarat in Lok Sabha polls. Gadhvi said, nationally I.N.D.I alliance has been formed among several opposition parties and Congress and AAP are part of this alliance, and therefore they shall jointly contest Lok Sabha polls in Gujarat.

When asked to react, Gujarat Congress Spokesperson Manish Doshi refused to react to Gadhvi’s remark and said downplayed it. He said such decisions are taken at the central level of party.

Ruling BJP has been winning all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat for last two regular elections of Lok Sabha. AAP had won 5 out of 182 assembly seats in regular election of State assembly last year while Congress had won 17 seats. BJP had won 156 seats.

However it is yet to see whether the alliance between Congress and AAP nationally sustains by the time of the election next year. AAP had put a condition for alliance that Congress would support it for opposing Government of National Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in parliament. Congress has done this favor to AAP. However union Home Minister who introduced this bill forecast that after passing of this bill, Kejriwal led AAP would detach itself from Congress once again. DeshGujarat
