Thieves stole equipment from wildlife camera panels installed in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: A complaint has been registered at the Infocity Police Station here in the state capital after some individuals broke the wildlife camera panels installed to inform commuters about the movement of stray animals. The thieves broke the camera panels and stole two motherboards and other equipment worth ₹ 24,400 from these panels.

In the state capital here, a pilot project was launched in collaboration with the World Bank, where CCTV cameras such as the Push Button Flashing Cross Walk System, Wildlife Detection, Incident Detection, and Speed Detection cameras were installed. This project, which cost approximately Rs. 14 crore, was aimed at enhancing traffic management, reducing road accidents, and providing safer pedestrian crossings.

A “hairpin band sensor system” equipped with a high-definition camera, radar, and additional wildlife detection, incident detection, and speed detection cameras was also installed near the turning point of the highway from the city entrance to Mother Dairy Bhat. This system alerts drivers in advance about animals roaming on the highway. The panel doors of this high-end camera were broken by some thieves, and the devices were stolen.
