September 08, 2023
Rajkot: Gujarat government arm Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) will run regular buses to connect the city of Rajkot to the new airport of Rajkot at Hirasar starting from Sunday, September 10. The new airport at Hirasar which is officially called the Rajkot International Airport is going to start functioning from September 10.
The new airport is located around 36 km away from Rajkot city besides Rajkot – Ahmedabad highway near Chotila. GSRTC will operate buses from 6 a.m. on Sunday. The bus will be operated at the interval of every two hours. A one-side ticket fare is fixed at Rs. 100. More details regarding this service and its routes are yet awaited.
The Chamber of Commerce had demanded the operation of such a bus service with the starting of the new airport, away from the city centre. The demand was made before the State Chief Minister. Accordingly, GSRTC is going to start such a service. It is worth noting that the local taxi operators’ union has fixed the one-way fare on the Rajkot – Hirasar route at Rs. 2,000 which is considered too high for a distance of around 36 km.
The new airport at Hirasar was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi in the last week of July this year. With the start of operations at the new airport on September 10, the old airport of Rajkot will be shut for all scheduled flights with effect from September 9. DeshGujarat
