Akshaya Patra may get contract to make Prasad at Ambaji Mandir

Ambaji: The Government is likely to assign the contract for making of Mohanthal prasad at Ambaji mandir to Akshay Patra Foundation of International Society of Krishna Consciousness(ISKCON), an organization that presently make and supply mid-day meal food to number of government run schools. At present, the Ambaji Devasthan Trust itself is making Mohanthal prasad after expiry of contract earlier assigned to Mohini caterers.

The government has decided not to continue the contract of Mohini after the allegations of use of adulterated ghee in Mohanthal surfacing following the Food & Drug department’s check. Mohini was into Mohanthal making for the devotees of Mandir for last fifteen years. There’s police complaint also filed against Mohini caterers yesterday by Sabar dairy.

The tender period of Mohini Caterers, which was found to be using substandard ghee in the prasad, had already ended on September 30th, and it was not renewed by the temple trust. Ultimately, the government has almost decided to award the prasad-making contract to a new agency, Akshaya Patra Sansthan of ISKCON.

The Food & Drug Department of Gujarat govt had taken legal action against the responsible person at Mohini Caterers, as their analysis report indicated that the edible ghee was of substandard quality. During the investigation, suspicion arose regarding the edible ghee used in prasad preparation, leading to preliminary testing on the spot using a mobile food testing van. Authorities seized 2820 kg of adulterated ghee worth Rs. 8 lakh on August 28th. Later, Ambaji police conducted a check at Neelkanth Traders in Ahmedabad and confiscated 3 cans of 15 kg ghee. This firm had provided Mohini Caterers with the adulterated ghee. DeshGujarat
