New Delhi: The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch has nabbed Tarun Jinaraj, who is accused of murdering his wife on Valentine’s Day in 2003. This arrest comes after nearly a month and a half since he jumped interim bail and failed to return to jail, as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ajit Rajian on Thursday.

According to a police official from Sarkhej, Jinaraj was captured at a paying guest facility in Najafgarh, located in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi.

Jinaraj, is facing allegations of strangling his wife Sajni on Valentine’s Day in 2003, just three months into their marriage at their Ahmedabad home. He was previously apprehended in 2018 in Bengaluru after being on the run for 15 years.

In an order dated July 20, the Gujarat High Court granted Jinaraj temporary bail for a two-week period. He was released on temporary bail between August 4 and 19, with an obligation to return to jail by August 19. However, he failed to comply with this directive, leading the jail authorities to notify the Gujarat High Court of his absconding status.

The police filed a supplementary chargesheet against Jinaraj in January 2019, charging him with various offenses under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including murder (section 302), dowry death (section 304B), cruelty to a woman by husband’s relatives (section 498A), conspiracy (section 120(B)), as well as sections 3 (penalty for giving or taking dowry) and 7 (cognizance of offense under the Act) of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Following Jinaraj’s 2018 arrest, a supplementary chargesheet was filed against him. He is also implicated in a 2018 FIR at a Bhopal police station in Madhya Pradesh for using forged documents to obtain a fake passport, which he purportedly used to secure employment in multinational companies and travel to the US multiple times.

In 2018, at the time of his apprehension, Jinaraj was found to have assumed a new identity, remarried, and had been residing in Bengaluru for six years with his second wife and two sons. DeshGujarat
