Demolition drive against illegal encroachment on Govt land in Prabhas Patan

Prabhas Patan: A massive demolition drive was carried out today in Prabhas Patan which is known for its world-famous Somnath mandir, the first jyotirlinga. Local police, State Reserve Police (SRP), crime branch, Special Operation Group (SOG) – in total 300 police men were deployed for smooth demolition. No protest was noticed during the day. Illegal commercial constructions over government owned land were cleared after due process of serving notices and surveys. The drive covered nearly 50 illegal commercial units on Somnath – Bhalka road. According to officials, there were demands of government land for setting up the government offices after formation of Gir Somnath district, with Veraval as its headquarters. Clearing of government land after removal of encroachment will result into availability of government land for setting up offices. DeshGujarat
