India – Pakistan Cricket Match: NSG teams to be deployed at Narendra Modi Stadium

Ahmedabad: As the city gets ready to host the much-anticipated India vs. Pakistan World Cup match scheduled for Saturday, additional security measures will be implemented, as the match is likely to attract numerous celebrities to the city. The city’s Police Commissioner, G S Malik, announced that over 11,000 personnel from various agencies such as the Gujarat Police, National Security Guard (NSG), Rapid Action Force (RAF), and Home Guard will be stationed at the stadium during the India-Pakistan match on October 14.

Commissioner Malik stated that security agencies will, for the first time, implement enhanced security protocols, including measures related to “chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats” at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Commissioner said, “In addition to more than 7,000 police personnel, nearly 4,000 Home Guard personnel will be deployed to secure the stadium and maintain law and order in areas of the city with communal sensitivities during the match. There will also be three ‘hit teams’ and an anti-drone team from the NSG. Additionally, nine teams from the bomb detection and disposal squad will be deployed.”

“Four IPS officers with the rank of Inspector General and Deputy Inspector General, along with 21 Deputy Commissioners of Police, will supervise and provide guidance to personnel on the day of the match. The security setup will also include three companies of the Rapid Action Force, in addition to 13 companies of the State Reserve Police (SRP),” added the city police chief.

These heightened security arrangements have been put in place due to perceived threats. In response to potential CBRN emergencies during the match, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will also be deployed.

Despite a lack of communal violence during cricket matches in Ahmedabad over the past two decades, security forces will be stationed in areas with communal sensitivities as a precautionary measure.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel met with Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, State DGP Vikas Sahay, G S Malik, and other senior police officers in Gandhinagar on Monday to review the security plan and ensure a trouble-free event. The chief minister emphasized the need for all necessary measures to prevent any untoward incidents.

Elaborate preparations have been made to address various factors, including the movement of over 100,000 spectators at the stadium and a recent threat received via email from unknown individuals.
