Gujarat actively engaging with Tesla for ahead of VGGS 2024

Sanand: In anticipation of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2024, the state government is actively pursuing the possibility of luring the electric car industry leader, Tesla, to Gujarat. Reports suggest that discussions are underway between the central government and Tesla to facilitate its entry into India, and the Gujarat government is seeking assistance from the central government to establish the project in the Sanand-Bechraji region or Dholera. There are indications that Tesla might collaborate with Indian automotive brands.

Notably, Tesla Inc’s CEO, Elon Musk, had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York in June. Sources have emphasized that Gujarat, being one of the most industrialized states and an established automobile hub, is leveraging central government support to secure the Tesla project for VGGS 2024.

High-ranking government officials have revealed that negotiations with Tesla are in the early stages, and the state is striving to bring this ambitious project to Gujarat, which has evolved into a prominent automotive center. Gujarat aims to make a significant contribution to India’s goal of becoming a $5 trillion economy, and projects like Tesla are expected to play a pivotal role in achieving this target.

Gujarat is considering offering land to Tesla in the Sanand-Bechraji region, where other major automobile manufacturers like Tata Motors and Suzuki already operate their auto plants. This region benefits from excellent connectivity with ports, facilitating exports. Furthermore, Dholera is also being explored as a potential site for Tesla’s plant, contingent on favorable developments.

Gujarat’s status as an automotive hub can be traced back to the introduction of Tata Motors’ ambitious Nano plant. Since then, the state has attracted various automotive companies, including Ford Motors, which was later acquired by Tata Motors, as well as Suzuki. MG Motor established its sole Indian plant by acquiring General Motors’ Halol facility. DeshGujarat
