Gujarat Common Admission Services portal to be effective from 2024-25
November 03, 2023
Gandhinagar: Gujarat government has announced the implementation of the “Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal” which will serve as a common platform for admissions to undergraduate courses at government universities. This new system is set to streamline the process, cutting admission time from two months to a fortnight, starting in the 2024-25 academic year.
Under the present system, students typically incur expenses by paying fees for admission forms from multiple colleges. However, with the new system, students will only need to pay a one-time registration fee on the portal, resulting in cost savings.
State government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel explained that currently, students spend around Rs 500 on admission forms for various colleges. With the introduction of the new system, they can use a common platform at a nominal cost.
The common admission platform will collect student details, create a unified merit list, and allocate colleges based on the students’ marks. Moreover, students will have the flexibility to apply for as many courses as they wish without incurring additional fees for each application.
Additionally, the new system is expected to enhance security and provide real-time data to the state education department during the admissions process. DeshGujarat
