Police extorted Rs. 20,000 via UPI from a Cricket lover who came to Ahmedabad to watch the match; Inquiry ordered

Ahmedabad: A youth had come from Delhi by road to Ahmedabad to watch the India – Australia final match of ICC Cricket World Cup and on the highway, just after Chiloda expressway, Police stopped his car extorted Rs. 20,000 through UPI payment as there was an unused liquor bottle present in the car. As this incident came into light via a TV channel’s conversation with the victim Cricket fan, an inquiry has been ordered and strict action against the responsible person has been assured by the Ahmedabad city police.
A video alleging demand of bribery frm a visitor from Delhi has been published in the media. After taking cognizance of the seriousness of allegations, an inquiry to the ACP Traffic 'C’ div has been ordered, which will be followed by strict action against the responsible person

The incident is embarrassing for the city police as the Government of India is going to propose Ahmedabad as host city for Olympic games in 2036, and such harassment to sports lovers coming from distance to the State gives bad name to the city.

This is not the first extortion incident that has come to the light in the city involving police men. In one of recent incidents of extortion by police, the Gujarat High Court had to take suo motu cognizance. DeshGujarat
