Dev Diwali, also known as Deepawali, is a revered Indian festival with immense significance for the Hindu community. Coinciding with Kartik Purnima, the festivities commence on the Ekadashi tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha and culminate on the fifth day, Kartik Purnima tithi (full moon night). Dev Deepawali commemorates Lord Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasura, and it is often referred to as Tripurotsav or Tripurari Purnima.

Dev Diwali 2023 Celebrations in Gujarat
In Gujarat, the revered Lili Parikrama that starts on Ekadashi concludes on Dev Deepawali. This event is attended by thousands of people. Diyas and firecrackers are lit on Dev Deepawali night. Annakut is organised in various mandirs in Ahmedabad on this occasion. The famous Santram temple of Nadiad, on the occasion of Dev Diwali, gets decorated with thousands of oil lamps every year.

Legend has it that Lord Shiva’s triumph over the demon Tripurasura is commemorated on this auspicious day. Gods and goddesses, celebrating this victory, descend on Varanasi to light millions of diyas. This triumph of good over evil symbolises the essence of Dev Diwali.
