Applicants can directly walk into RPO Ahmedabad for resolution of pending issues
December 02, 2023
Ahmedabad: If you have a pending application at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) here, you can now resolve the issue by just walking into the RPO without making a prior appointment (in specific cases). The RPO in Ahmedabad has introduced a direct approach for applicants to resolve their concerns without the need for prior appointments. Previously, individuals with pending applications had to endure long waits due to the release of only 100 appointments daily.
Wren Mishra, the regional passport officer in Ahmedabad, explained that some applicants have files in pending status due to the non-submission of one or two documents, and there are others whose passports have been returned undelivered. We are permitting individuals facing these issues to visit the office directly.
Moreover, applicants can also visit without an online appointment, in cases where the police report is unfavorable or the application has been pending for more than 30 days following the police inquiry.
In another development, the RPO has experienced an unprecedented surge in applications, reaching a historic 8.12 lakh, the highest in its history. Previously, the record was 7.27 lakh applications in 2018. As of November 30, RPO Ahmedabad has successfully processed 7.70 lakh out of the 8.12 lakh applications.
The significant increase in applications is attributed to students pursuing education abroad and individuals seizing opportunities post the relaxation of Covid restrictions. A notable surge has been observed among individuals aged 22 to 28, primarily those aspiring to study abroad. Additionally, people planning trips to tourist destinations have contributed to the spike.
