3 crore farmers received over 15k crore under PM Kisan Yojana in Gujarat

New Delhi: Since the inception of the PM Kisan Yojana in February 2019, a total amount of Rs. 15,603.57 crore has been released until the year 2023-24 for the farmers of Gujarat, and 3,02,85,937 farmers have benefited from this scheme in the state, as stated by the Union government.

The Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar, in a reply to a question in Lok Sabha during the ongoing session of Parliament, stated:

The PM-KISAN scheme is a central sector scheme launched in February 2019 to supplement the financial needs of land-holding farmers. Under this scheme, the financial benefit of Rs 6,000/- per year in three equal instalments every four months is transferred into the bank accounts of farmers’ families across the country through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. A farmer-centric digital infrastructure has ensured the benefits of the scheme reach all the farmers across the country without any involvement of the middlemen. Maintaining absolute transparency in registering and verifying beneficiaries, the Government of India has disbursed over Rs 2.80 lakh Cr to more than 11 Cr farmers. In the Maharashtra State, over Rs. 27,945 Cr has been transferred to more than 1.11 Cr farmers since inception of the scheme.

Under the PM-KISAN Scheme, the State/UT Governments are mandated to identify and verify the beneficiaries as per the guidelines of the scheme. Once the farmer’s details are verified, the benefits of the scheme are released in to their bank accounts. The validation and checks are ongoing processes, as and when the farmers have completed the mandatory requirements, they receive their accrued benefits of all the instalments.

Under the PM-KISAN scheme, a robust grievance redressal system is in place. The farmers can lodge their grievances on the PM-KISAN portal and 24×7 IVRS facility for effective and timely resolution. Further, the farmers also have the facility to register their grievances, if any through Public Grievances portal. In addition to the above, the Government of India has developed Kisan e-Mitra (AI Chatbot) – Farmers’ digital assistance to address their queries in their own languages, thereby empowering the farmers through technological interventions. The Kisan e-Mitra is removing the existing technological and language barriers of the farmers.

As stated above, the benefits of the scheme are released after due verification by the State/UT Governments. Further, the PM-KISAN portal has also been integrated with the portals of UIDAI for Aadhaar authentication; with PFMS for validation of account and Government employees/pensioners data; with Income Tax department for validation of income tax payee status; and with National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) for account validation and Aadhaar based payments to identify the ineligible farmers as per the guidelines of the scheme before processing their payments.

Further, Aadhaar seeding with bank accounts, e-KYC, and land-seeding of all the beneficiaries are also being done to verify their eligibility as per the guidelines of the scheme. States/UTs have been asked to expedite the process for saturation of the
scheme with all the eligible beneficiaries and removal of ineligible beneficiaries, if any found during the process. In addition, States/UTs have been mandated to recover any amount transferred to ineligible farmers. So far, more than Rs. 325 Cr has been recovered from the ineligible farmers.
