Gujarat court issues warrant against AAP’s Sanjay Singh in GU defamation case

Ahmedabad: A metropolitan court issued a warrant for incarcerated AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday in a defamation case filed by Gujarat University.

The additional chief metropolitan magistrate, SJ Panchal, issued the production warrant after Singh’s lawyer informed the court that he had not received instructions from his client, who is currently in Delhi’s Tihar jail.

Singh was arrested on October 5 in a money-laundering case linked to an excise policy scam in Delhi. Through the production warrant, the magistrate instructed the local police to take Singh into custody from Tihar jail and present him before the court at 11 a.m. on January 11 for further proceedings.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Singh are accused of damaging the reputation of Gujarat University (GU) with their “sarcastic” and “derogatory” remarks regarding PM Modi’s degree.

During the witness examination on Thursday, Kejriwal’s lawyer submitted a plea for exemption from appearance, which the court accepted. DeshGujarat
