All buses of GSRTC now integrated with Vehicle Tracking & Passenger Information System (GPS)
February 12, 2024
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) today in a note informed it has successfully implemented the Integrated Vehicle Tracking and Passenger Information System (GPS) across its State Transport (ST) buses.
GSRTC and passengers, both will benefit from this project. Real-time monitoring of all buses enables the corporation to manage and operate its fleet more efficiently, ensuring the safety of passengers and buses through the Integrated Vehicle Tracking (I.V.T.) application.
Before 2015, the corporation faced operational challenges, including fleet tracking, schedule management, complaints of irregularities, and a lack of real-time information for passengers. To address these issues, the corporation recognized the need for a robust technological solution. The Integrated Vehicle Tracking and Passenger Information System (GPS) was established to overcome the above problems.
GPS devices were installed in 2400 buses in the first phase, 2600 buses in the second phase, and approximately 3300 buses remaining in the third phase. Along with this, in the first phase, 591 passenger information systems were installed at different 100 bus stations. 16 Divisional Command Control Centers and 1 Central Command Control Station were also established in the Central Office.
A sophisticated and highly advanced integrated vehicle tracking application was developed for this project. In which sophisticated technology like Geographical Information Systems (GIS) has been integrated. This IVT application receives live and real-time GPS data on its server in just a few milliseconds and immediately processes this data into PIS, IVT. Sends various reports in-app and mobile app.
The I.V.T. application resolves issues like unauthorized stops, deviations from routes, over-speeding, and trip mismanagement by depot or staff. It offers real-time monitoring of buses in parallel operation, allowing for efficient decision-making to address traffic issues and enhance productivity. The application ensures trip timeliness, schedule adherence, and reduced operational costs, contributing to a decrease in accidents and related claims.
GSRTC’s Passenger Information System at the main depots of the Corporation offers live and accurate details of buses through audio-video systems on the platforms. This includes information such as bus routes, service types, estimated time of arrival, estimated time of departure, bus number, last location of the bus, platform number, etc.
As a result, the live and accurate details provided by the passenger information system have boosted passenger confidence. The mobile application associated with this project furnishes passengers with all the necessary details regarding travel, buses, routes, etc., making the overall travel experience more convenient for passengers.
