Gujarat to develop Special Action Force against communal riots: Sanghavi

Gandhinagar: Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi while speaking in the State assembly said the State Reserve Police (SRP) force group-2, Ahmedabad company will be developed as a Special Action Force as part of the Government’s policy of zero tolerance against communal riots and incidents of violence.
Sanghavi said, for the first time, NDPS cell will be formed under the Superitendent of Police level officer in CID Crime to take the fight against drugs from the international borders to the streets.
He said, all Sub-Inspector level police stations will be upgraded to Inspector level in three phases through Shodh yojana. He said Information Technology (IT) experts will be appointed in each police station.
Sanghavi said 200 outposts will be upgraded from Head Constable/ASI level to Sub Inspector level and provided one police constable with a motorcycle.
Sanghavi said, Gujarat’s place in crime rate against women is 33rd in India. He said death penalty or life term was given in 29 cases in least time.
Sanghavi said a scheme of starting a number 112 has been announced to respond in 10 minutes in urban areas and 30 minutes in rural areas under which 1100 new vehicles and new police staff will be inducted.
He said under Sugam scheme, 1,000 new posts of traffic police will be created along with modern technology equipment.
