Rajkot: In wildlife-related news, two white tiger cubs have been born in Pradhyuman Zoological Park in the city. The tiger cubs were born after a 105-day pregnancy following the mating of the male white tiger Diwakar and a female tigress. With the birth of these two tigers, the number of white tigers at Rajkot’s Pradhyuman Zoological Park has reached 10.
The two tiger cubs were born on the evening of March 25th. They are currently being adequately cared for by their mother, Gayatri. Both the mother and the cubs are healthy and are being monitored round the clock through CCTV by the zoo veterinary officer and team. In the year 2014-15, Rajkot Zoo gifted a lion pair to Maitri Bagh Zoo, Bhilai (Chhattisgarh), under the wildlife exchange scheme. In return, Maitri Bagh Zoo, Bhilai, gave the white tiger male Diwakar, white tiger Yashodhara, and white tiger Gayatri to Pradhyuman Zoological Park.
Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani also took to social media to express his happiness about the news, and wrote, “Glad to know that 2 white tiger cubs are born at Rajkot Zoo, Gujarat, increasing the white tiger family to 10! This is a testament to the successful breeding programs and the rigorous conservation efforts adopted to safeguard our wildlife.”
