Autorickshaw drivers once again enter into brawl with security personnel at Ahmedabad Airport

Ahmedabad: A brawl erupted between security personnel and auto-rickshaw drivers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport on Tuesday. Video footage captured the rickshaw drivers engaging in a heated argument with security guards upon entering the arrival area, eventually escalating to physical violence as they assaulted the guard.

The altercation left passengers at the airport shocked and fearful. In response, the airport authorities have submitted an application to the police and are also preparing to file a formal complaint regarding the incident.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night, allegedly initiated by intoxicated rickshaw drivers who were aggressively soliciting passengers for rides at the airport. However, security personnel intervened to prevent them from touting. Following this intervention, some rickshaw drivers proceeded to the arrival area, where a heated argument took place, and a rickshaw driver reportedly slapped an on-duty security guard. This incident left passengers at the airport in shock and fear.

This incident highlights an ongoing dispute between auto-rickshaw drivers and security guards at Ahmedabad Airport over the past five months. In previous incidents also, a security guard was assaulted after he stopped rickshaw drivers from harassing the passengers.

Meanwhile the menace of unregulated rickshaw operations and touts seems unending even after the management of the airport is taken over by private player Adani Airports. A person on micro blogging site X shared a video and photograph regarding how a rickshaw driver scammed him by taking Rs. 300 instead of Rs. 180 for travel from Ahmedabad airport to DA-IICT and ran away.
