Vadodara Fire Brigade buys 81-Meter Hydraulic Elevated Platform ‘Airavat’ from Finland
June 08, 2024
Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has recently acquired a Hydraulic Elevated Platform (HEP) from Finland. Named Airavat, this HEP stands at 81 meters and is designed for firefighting and rescue operations in high-rise buildings, reaching up to 26 floors. Finnish experts conducted a 15-day training session for VMC’s fire department personnel, familiarizing them with the HEP’s modern sensors and diverse functionalities.
The new HEP was brought to Vadodara via waterways from Finland with a total cost of Rs. 25 crores. The HEP, measuring 17 meters in length, 5 meters in width, and weighing 50 tons, boasts a 6-wheel drive and has 14 wheels. It can reach up to 26 floors and accommodate 8 to 10 individuals during rescue operations. Equipped with a 10000 LPM pump, it has a firefighting capacity of 3500 liters per minute, enhancing the department’s efficiency in combating fires in high-rise structures.
This acquisition is an upgrade for Vadodara’s fire brigade, which previously had equipment capable of reaching heights of only 44 meters. The ability to respond to fires in skyscrapers or high-rise buildings was limited earlier. Chief Fire Officer Parth Brahmbhatt stated that firefighters are currently undergoing training to operate the new HEP. Capable of lifting weights of up to 500 kg, the HEP operates using sensors that respond to wind speed variations. With the integration of this advanced equipment into the fire department, Vadodara will enhance its ability to extinguish fires in taller buildings. DeshGujarat
