Court issues arrest warrant against absconding accused in Surat fake GST billing scam
June 19, 2024
Surat: A local court has issued an arrest warrant against Altaf, alias Pappu Ashraf Rupani, in a fake GST billing case. The warrant follows a complaint filed by Pranav Patel of the A.B.C.D. Creation firm. Altaf fraudulently used documents to create bogus GST bills and claimed financial gains under the guise of a non-existent firm named Sumati Enterprise.
Using documents obtained from Patel’s scrap business, Altaf represented himself as Balvantbhai Arjanbhai Vora to secure GST registration and credentials. He generated fake GST bills and e-way bills for Sumati Enterprise, a fabricated entity. This scheme enabled him to illicitly claim input tax credit amounting to Rs 59.33 lakh on the GST portal.
Investigations revealed that between September 10, 2022, and November 11, 2022, Altaf orchestrated transactions totaling Rs 3.89 crore through intermediaries Mohammed Siddique, alias Lalubhai Gulam Mohyuddin Sheikh, and Arshad, alias Rehman Ashrafbhai Begavala. These individuals facilitated the sale of scrap to A.B.C.D. Creation, contributing to the financial deception.
Despite knowing that Balvantbhai Vora had no involvement in any business activities, Altaf persisted in illegal activities under his name. Police Inspector H.K. Solanki of the Economic Offence Wing of the Surat Crime Branch confirmed Altaf’s status as an absconder and reported the issuance of an arrest warrant. DeshGujarat
