June 21, 2024
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court today lifted the stay on the release of Netflix film ‘Maharaj’. The decision came after a three-day hearing before Justice Sangeeta Vishen, where both parties presented their arguments. With the stay lifted, Netflix and Yashraj Films can now proceed with the release of ‘Maharaj’.
The court, after reviewing the film and finding no negative content or harm to religious sentiments, delivered a judgment lasting about 1 hour and 25 minutes. The High Court’s decision followed a thorough examination of the film, ensuring it does not hurt religious sentiments.
The court in its verdict observed – ‘Statutory body has watched the movie and has certified the release of the movie. It was agreed by the parties and this court had viewed the film. Having viewed the film, this court found nothing objectionable that would hurt the religious feelings of the petitioners or a sect. The core message of the film focuses against social evil and fight by social reformer Karsandas Mulji who himself was from Vaishnavite community.’
‘Even in the film, Govind Strotram has been recited. Except the apprehension on the part of the petitioner, the film in no manner affects or hurts the religious feelings. The film concludes by saying that the sect is ‘far more important than any individual.’ DeshGujarat
