Fintech Institute to be set up at GIFT City; foreign university courses begin next month

Gandhinagar: Tapan Ray, CEO and Managing Director of GIFT City, announced today that GIFT is developing a Fintech Institute.

Speaking at an event in the state capital, Ray said, “GIFT and technology are synonymous. As you can see, the word ‘GIFT’ itself comprises ‘Gujarat International Finance Tec-City,’ so when you have deep tech, you also have fintech. They are very much related, and we are really happy that GIFT is proving to be a good platform in Gujarat and the northern Indian region.”

“The issue in technology, deep tech, or even artificial intelligence is the constant supply of talent. Without a continuous supply chain, you would not be able to maximize the benefits of these technologies. We are aware of this and are currently conducting a study to examine the areas where we need to enhance this aspect. AI, in itself, is something every state wants to pursue. Every state is setting up AI missions and policies. However, the state that can ensure a constant supply chain will be the one that succeeds. This is what we are focusing on at GIFT.”

“What we are doing involves a multiple-strategy approach in terms of short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals. In the short run, universities around GIFT are already in the process of offering courses that cater to these initiatives. Additionally, at GIFT, we are launching the Fintech Institute, which is the brainchild of the Prime Minister. He(the Prime Minister) mentioned that GIFT City should be the center for fintech innovation and research. These concepts are all interconnected, including AI,” Ray said.

“At the Fintech Institute, we have already devised plans to develop an international institute of high quality, with support from the Asian Development Bank. This institute will focus on skill development, talent nurturing, startups, and research. Several key institutes in Gujarat and India have applied to partner with GIFT City in this endeavor. AI will naturally be a part of the Fintech Institute,” he added.

The GIFT MD also said, “In the IFSC area, we have allowed foreign university campuses to be set up. They have been mandated to focus on the STEM sector, which includes science, technology, engineering, and math, but also covers fintech, AI, data science, and cybersecurity. The first courses are scheduled to start next month, and many more universities are showing interest in establishing their campuses at GIFT City.” DeshGujarat
