Surat to have 34 fire stations in next 2-3 years as SMC plans construction of 9 more
July 08, 2024
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is planning to increase the number of fire stations in the city from 25 to 34 due to frequent fire incidents. Currently, 20 stations are operational, and five are under construction. The new plan involves adding nine more stations to cover the expanding city limits and population.
The fire department has observed an increase in fire incidents, especially in the outskirts of Surat. The existing 25 stations are inadequate to meet the growing needs of the city. The department will seek approval from the administration for the new stations, following the rules of the Standing Fire Advisory Committee.
The fire department has already begun work on the plan to construct nine new fire stations. If the construction of these nine stations is approved, the city is expected to have 34 fire stations within the next two to three years. This initiative aims to enhance response times during fire emergencies across the city.
In another development, the civic body has taken strict actions against properties without fire NOC. Following a fire incident at Rajkot TRP Gamezone, the fire department has sealed over 800 properties. DeshGujarat
