Daman: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has relieved former Gujarat Minister Purnesh Modi from the post of Incharge of the party unit in the Union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Modi has been replaced by former Bharuch MLA Dushyant Patel, who previously served as the co-incharge of these units.
MLA from Surat (West) seat Purnesh Modi recently made headlines for meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Party President J.P. Nadda, after photos of these meetings went viral. During his tenure as a Cabinet minister in the initial Bhupendra Patel administration, Modi oversaw significant portfolios such as transport, civil aviation, and tourism.
In the recently concluded General Election of Lok Sabha, the ruling BJP lost the Daman-Diu Lok Sabha seat. BJP candidate Lalubhai Patel was defeated by independent candidate Umeshbhai Babubhai Patel by a margin of 6,225 votes. Lalubhai Patel had been elected three times as MP from the Daman Diu seat since 2009.
After being appointed as the Incharge of the party unit in Daman-Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli, former Bharuch MLA Patel was welcomed by local BJP workers in Daman when he arrived there on Monday. DeshGujarat
