ED Attaches 17 Properties in Valsad, Daman Worth Rs 6.52 Crore in PMLA Case Against Suresh Patel

Surat: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Surat Sub-Zonal Office, has provisionally attached 17 immovable properties worth approximately Rs 6.52 crore in Daman and Valsad, Gujarat, in a money laundering case against Suresh Jagubhai Patel alias Sukha and others. Sukha is former president of Daman district panchayat. He faced number of cases in the past including a murder case and liquor smuggling cases.

The attachment was made on September 8, 2026, under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

The ED investigation was initiated on the basis of FIRs registered by the Daman Police, Gujarat Police and Mumbai Police against Patel and his associates. The FIRs allege offences including corruption, possession of illegal firearms, murder, extortion, forgery, passport forgery and copyright violations.

According to the ED, its investigation found that Patel allegedly established a monopoly over the scrap trading and transport services business in Daman by eliminating rival traders and using threats, intimidation, muscle power and his criminal record.

The agency further stated that Prosecution Complaint No. 10/2024 was filed before the Special Court (PMLA), Daman, on November 27, 2024, against Patel, his associate Mahesh Nanda and others.

Rs 13.85 crore assets seized or attached so far

The ED said that during earlier search proceedings in the case, cash and bank balances amounting to Rs 2.90 crore were seized or frozen.

In addition, 24 immovable properties worth Rs 4.42 crore located in Daman and Mumbai were provisionally attached. The attachment was subsequently confirmed by the Adjudicating Authority under the PMLA in New Delhi.

With the latest attachment of 17 properties worth Rs 6.52 crore, the ED said that movable and immovable properties worth a total of Rs 13.85 crore have so far been seized, attached or frozen in the case.

The ED said that further investigation is under progress.
