Robbery at knifepoint on Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway; Two nabbed

Kheda: A robbery took place on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway near Nadiad late Wednesday night. A Bolero pickup driver was robbed of his phone and cash at knifepoint by three individuals. After receiving information about the robbery, the police swung into action and nabbed two suspects, while one remains at large.

28-year-old Prashant Gelabhai Bharwad, a resident of Dhoyka village in Shehra taluka of Panchmahal district, has been working as a driver for a Bolero pickup vehicle belonging to Parthiv, a resident of Vadodara, for the past 4 months. Prashant was on his way to deliver some auto parts with the Bolero pickup vehicle (GJ 06 X 0350) to Sanand. He was traveling from Halol to Ahmedabad via the expressway from Vadodara. Late at night, he parked his vehicle on the side near an overbridge close to Nadiad as he needed to urinate. As he was returning to his vehicle, three unknown persons rushed towards him. Before Prashant could react, two of the trio grabbed him while the third took out a knife, held it to Prashant’s throat, and said, ‘Tere paas jo hey wo dede’ (Give me whatever you have). They found Rs 1600 in cash in his wallet and Prashant’s mobile phone lying on the desk of the Bolero pickup, totaling Rs 5600. The trio ran away after looting the items. Prashant then fled with the Bolero vehicle to save his life.

Later, after Prashant filed a complaint with Nadiad police, the Special Operations Group nabbed two of the three robbers hiding in the thicket near the helipad in Nadiad within hours. The accused, Kalu alias Tino Umar Kharai (resident of Bajrada, Dhandhuka, now residing in Mithapura, Bawla) and Ahmed alias Todo Shakur Mori (resident of Siani, Limbdi, now residing in Mithapura, Bawla), have been caught, while the third accused, Hajidaud Ahmed Mori (resident of Bajarda, Dhandhuka), is on the run.

Two knives, three mobile phones, cash, hand batteries, clothes, and other items were seized from the two accused individuals. The trio’s modus operandi involves carrying out robberies on the Vadodara-Ahmedabad Express Highway during night hours by holding up drivers of vehicles parked on the highway at knifepoint.
