Ahmedabad: A huge commotion erupted at Shanti Asiatic School located in Shela today after parents of the students gathered to protest following an AC explosion in one of the classrooms on Thursday.
Students in the primary section of Shanti Asiatic School were evacuated after a fire in the AC unit caused widespread panic and filled a classroom with smoke. The incident has angered parents, who protested at the school today, upset that they were not informed about the incident.
In response to the school’s handling of the situation, several parents decided not to send their children to school today. Parents who reached the school in protest checked the fire safety equipment and expressed their anger over not being informed about the AC explosion.
After parents inspected the school, it was learned that the classroom in the basement where the fire erupted had been painted by the school overnight. All the classrooms in the basement were painted white, while the room where the fire erupted was painted saffron. Seeing this, parents have alleged foul play on the part of the school. The police also arrived at the location, and the school has been declared shut until the investigation is over.
Ahmedabad Rural District Education Officer Krupa Jha stated that the school officials claimed the incident was a fire mock drill. The DEO also stated, “Prima facie, there is negligence on the part of the school, and all kinds of verification will be done. The parents’ complaint has been taken into consideration. All necessary actions will be taken against those responsible. The school will only reopen after a thorough investigation and if the campus is deemed safe for students.”
The school management claimed that yesterday’s incident was part of a mock drill; however, the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AF&ES) reported that they did not receive any calls from the school regarding a fire. DeshGujarat
