Damanganga crosses rule level; Nearly 40,000 outflow in downstream

Gandhinagar: Southern Gujarat’s second largest dam, Damanganga, today exceeded its prescribed rule level until August 1st.

As of 6:00 pm today, July 13th, the dam’s water level was at 72.10 m, surpassing the rule level of 72 m set for the period until August 1st. The full capacity of the dam is 79.86 m, with current water storage at 43.96% of its full capacity. To maintain the rule level, 39,900 cusecs of water is being released downstream, while the inflow is recorded at 37,533 cusecs. The dam’s present storage stands at 230.71 MCM against its designed gross storage capacity of 524.86 MCM. As per the latest information until 6 pm, Gates no. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 have been opened by 1.3 meters.

In another development, Ukai dam, Southern Gujarat’s largest and Gujarat’s second largest, currently holds 35.30% of its storage capacity. As of 6:00 pm today, the dam’s storage is 2,617.61 MCM against its designed gross storage capacity of 7,414.29 MCM.

In another update, the District Disaster Management Authority of Daman informed that up to 50,000 cusecs water will be released progressively from Madhuban dam into the Damanganga River. However, there is no alert for any villages downstream. DeshGujarat
