58 Lakh robbery at jewellers shop in Ahmedabad; owner injured in shooting

Ahmedabad: A robbery took place today at Soni Himmatlal Shankarlalji, a gold and silver shop on Gandhi Road’s Fatasa Ni Pol. The shop owner was shot in the leg and has been hospitalized. The accused took jewellery worth Rs. 58 lahks and fled the scene. Khadia police launched an investigation following the incident.

A three-minute CCTV footage captured the sequence of events inside the jewellery shop. At approximately 3:15 PM, a masked man entered the shop and confronted the shop owner Vikas Soni. Within just ten minutes, the suspect discussed about jewelry, abruptly closed the shop shutter, and pulled out a revolver. After a five-minute struggle, he shot the businessman in the leg and escaped with the jewellery worth Rs 58 lakhs.

The injured shop owner is currently hospitalized for treatment of his gunshot wound. Details regarding the extent of the robbery and the number of suspects involved are under investigation. Once Vikas’s condition stabilizes, police hope to gather more information from him.

E Division ACP Vani Dudhat confirmed that the police received a report of the shooting in the evening. Khadia police and the Ahmedabad Crime Branch responded to the scene to gather evidence. The Crime Branch and police teams tracked the suspect to the railway station using CCTV footage. They are currently investigating the suspect’s whereabouts.
