A bridge for light vehicle to come up over Ahmedabad Airport road in Shahibaug

Ahmedababad: A Rs. 6.18 crore ‘U’ shape over-bridge for light vehicles will come up over Shahibaug Dafnala – Airport road. This will be the first of its kind of bridge in the city.

A proposal in this regard was in the agenda of the Road & Building committee meeting of Amdavad Municipal Corporation(AMC) on Wednesday.

The bridge will facilitate the Army people living in Shahibaug Cantontment. The cantontment area is divided into two by the Airport road. Once the brige is built, the Army people will be able to cross over easily using it. Presently they have to cross the road by foot which is very risky, considering the speedy traffic on the Airport road.

The AMC had committed to build this road when Army Cantontment land was sought for phase-2 development of the Sabarmati Riverfront. AMC had also given commitment for construction of a foot overbridge with escalator near the Camp Hanuman mandir gate. The work for the same is underway.

AMC had made understanding with Army Cantontment Board in 2020 under which, Army gave 1,33,305.80 square meter land to develop the phase-2 of Sabarmati Riverfront to AMC. In exchange of this, AMC gave commitment to make an over bridge near Grenadier Unit – 17. Proposed bridge shall be 360 meters long and 4.85 meters wide.
