Holiday in school/colleges due to 9 inch rain in parts of Navsari district; Tourists at waterfall rescued

Navsari: Schools and colleges in Navsari district’s Chikhli, Gandevi, Khergam talukas are declared shut today due to continuing rainfall and rise in the levels of water in the rivers. Schools, kindergarten, ITI and colleges will continue to function routinely in other talukas of Navsari district. Online academic activity is also allowed to continue. This announcement has been made by the Collector of Navsari.

Meanwhile the level of water in Kaveri river reached the danger level of 19 ft. The district administration has appealed people living in low lying areas to shift to safer places. The level of Ambika river in the district has also gone up beyond 23 ft. The administration rescued the visitors at Vangan in Vansda taluka from Ankda waterfall site due to overtopping of road.

The district administration has closed 64 roads that were flooded due to the heavy rains, primarily located on or near the Ambika, Purna, Kaveri, and other rivers in the district. Vansda taluka had the most closed roads at 19, followed by Khergam with 15. Police have been deployed at these locations to prevent access.

Two dams in Navsari district, the Juj Dam and Keliya Dam, are overflowing. The Juj Dam is overflowing at 168.5 feet, surpassing its rule level of 167.5 feet, while the Keliya Dam is overflowing at 114.1 feet, above its rule level of 113.4 feet.

It’s worth to note that in 24 hours ending at 6 am today, Khergam taluka of Navsari received highest rainfall across Gujarat which was 229 mm or over 9 inches. Chikhli and Vansda talukas of Navsari district have also received above and around 6 inches of rainfall. Gandevi has received over 2.5 inches of rainfalll, while Navsari and Jalalpor talukas of district have receieved around one inch of rainfall. DeshGujarat
