Thousands of pilgrims visit Somnath Mandir on first day/Somvar of Shravan

Prabhas Patan: Thousands of pilgrims reached Somnath Mandir early in the morning on the first day of Shravan today which is also the first Somvar of Shravan this year.

Long queues of devotees continued throughout the morning and beyond. The mandir was opened at 4 am due to Shravan and Shravan-Somvar. Dhavaja pujan, Mritinjay jap yagna and Palkhi yatra etc ceremonies took place in the morning.

Somnath mandir, the first Jyotirlinga will continue to attract large number of devotees throughout the holy month of Shravan.

As per Shri Somnath Trust, over 1 million pilgrims visit Somnath for darshan during Shravan every year. Various puja including Dhvaj puja, Pagh puja, Kalash puja, Markandey puja, Kalsarpyog nivaran puja, Rudrabhishek path, Bilva puja take place during Shravan in the mandir.

Shri Ram Katha has been organized during 5 July to 13 August by a blind kathakar Dr. Krunalbhai Joshi. Somnath Sanskrit Unievrsity’s Puran departmenrt professor Dr. Pankaj Raval will recite Shiv Katha during Shravan. DeshGujarat
