Over 229,000 students move from private to govt schools in Gujarat for 2024-25

Gandhinagar: During the 2024-25 academic session, a total of 229,747 students in Gujarat transitioned from private to government schools, according to the state government.
In a statement released on Monday, the government reported that among municipal corporations, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had the highest number of students moving to government schools, with 37,786 students. This was followed by Surat Municipal Corporation with 22,892 students, Vadodara Municipal Corporation with 10,602 students, and Rajkot Municipal Corporation with 6,204 students.
In the districts, Banaskantha saw a shift of 10,228 students, followed by Mehsana with 8,267 students, Bhavnagar with 8,242 students, Junagadh with 7,892 students, Anand with 7,269 students, Ahmedabad Rural with 6,910 students, Gandhinagar with 6,881 students, Kutch with 5,952 students, and Kheda with 5,910 students.
The statement also highlighted that the state government has consistently increased the education budget each year, allocating a total of Rs 55,114 crore for education, an increase of Rs 11,463 crore from the previous year’s budget. Additionally, over one lakh smart classes are currently operational in Gujarat, with more than 5,000 more in progress to enhance technological education. Approximately 240,000 computers have been provided to 16,000 schools, and the installation of 70,000 computers in over 4,000 schools is underway.
