Gujarat Congess’s Nyay Yatra attracts lacklustre support, fails to achieve its objective

Ahmedabad: The main opposition Congress party’s Nyay Yatra has remained unsuccesful in adding anything new to the party’s fold.

The very backdrop of the yatra was to demand justice for victims of various tragedies such as Rajkot TRP game zone fire tragedy, Morbi hanging bridge collapse tragedy, Harni boat tragedy and Surat Takshashila building fire tragedy. However the family members of victims of these tragedies disassociated themselves from this yatra and gave media statements that they were not going to participate in such purely political event.

The yatra’s focal point was Rajkot TRP game zone fire tragedy, but the public meeting in Rajkot itself attracted merely 1000 t0 1500 Congress workers and supporters, as per the photographs of the public meeting shared by social media handles of Congress leaders. The yatra failed to connect to the common people. It was largely participated only by Congress leaders, cadres and supporters. Meaning, the yatra failed to add anything new to party’s fold.

The yatra attracted some media attention only for once, and that too for a controversial reason. The Congress leaders in Surendranagar district in the course of yatra irked when they spotted a group of local school children wearing saffron t-shirts that had images of two great freedom fighters Subhash Chandra Bose and Veer Savarkar. The Congress leaders started lecturing the students and also removed their t-shirts because there were images of Veer Savarkar and Subhash Chandra Bose over these t-shirts.  The Congress leaders argued that it was BJP’s attempt to erase the “actual” freedom fighters – Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel. Video clips of this incident went viral and Minister of State for Home announced police complaint against the Congress leaders. No need to say that attack on great icon like Veer Savarkar during Nyay Yatra didn’t go well with right-leaning Gujarati voters.

A local daily Sandesh reports – ‘Gujarat Congress’s Nyay Yatra has flopped. It has failed to receive support of not just the victims (of various tragedies) but even Congress workers and office bearers have not come in its support. The yatra therefore is going to end in Chandkheda in Ahmedabad instead of Gandhinagar as it was earlier announced. The yatra started on 9 August and big claims were made that Rahl Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra and other top leaders would participate it but as the High Command of party found there was no substance in it, they ignored it. Former Madhya Pradesh CM Digivijay Singh also was shocked to see the lackluster yatra when he came to Gujarat.’

In one of videos posted in the course of Nyay Yatra, one of two minds behind the yatra MLA Jignesh Mevani can be seen instructing the participants to walk widely ( apparently for the reason so that good number can reflect ) and not narrowly.
