Umarpada tops the chart, followed by Vijapur, in 12-hour rainfall data from across Gujarat

Surat: In the 12 hours ending at 6 p.m. on August 24, Gujarat received widespread rainfall across 182 talukas. Among these, Umarpada in Surat district of South Gujarat recorded the highest rainfall of 225 mm, or nearly 8.9 inches. Another taluka that experienced very heavy rain was Vijapur in Mehsana, with 205 mm (8 inches). Generally, 50 mm of rainfall, which is roughly 2 inches, can create a temporary waterlogging situation if the downpour occurs in a short span. There were 11 talukas where rainfall exceeded 4 inches. The top five talukas that received the highest rainfall were Umarpada, Vijapur, Dharampur, Kapadvanj, and Vapi. DeshGujarat
