September 12, 2024
Gandhinagar: Minister of State for Transport, Harsh Sanghavi, today flagged off 20 new hi-tech Volvo buses of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) from Gandhinagar Bus Station in the state capital. The Minister personally inspected the facilities related to citizen safety and obtained relevant information.
Starting today, 20 new hi-tech buses with advanced technology will be operational for the citizens of Gujarat. Eight buses will operate from Ahmedabad’s Nehrunagar to Surat, another eight from Ahmedabad’s Nehrunagar to Vadodara, and four from Ahmedabad to Rajkot.
After flagging off the buses, the MoS Home said, “Dada ni Savari, ST Hamari,” referring to the Chief Minister. He added that Gujarat is a major tourism destination and these buses have been launched for tourists coming from around the world, as well as for the youth of the state seeking high-tech facilities.
Sanghvi provided details about the safety features of the new buses, noting that they are the first in the country to incorporate fire safety systems similar to those used in Air Force aircraft and Navy submarines. These include fire detection, alarm, suppression, and protection systems. In the event of a fire or smoke generation in the bus, nitrogen gas and two 250-liter water tanks will activate sprinkler technology to spray water inside the bus, allowing citizens to exit safely. An emergency button has also been installed with the safety of women in mind. If an incident occurs during the journey, pressing the button will notify the nearest police station, aiding in the quick apprehension of the offender.
The Minister further added that these new buses are equipped with special amenities for citizens, including 47 seating capacity, 2×2 leather pushback seats, CCTV cameras, mobile charging facilities, an advanced sprinkler system for fire safety, smoke detector alarms, LED TVs, a hatch with an exhaust fan, and an emergency exit door. These modern features will make the journey more comfortable for passengers.
