Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad city traffic police on Wednesday arrested a 28-year-old man hailing from Kotada Sangani in Rajkot in connection with a hit-and-run case that occurred on Science City Road in the city on September 15.
Accused Jaydeep Vaghasia surrendered to the police on Wednesday. According to the police, during questioning, Vaghasia stated that he had brought his brother-in-law, who is battling cancer, to a private hospital in Sola from Rajkot. He revealed that he was sleep-deprived and heading to a hotel when the accident occurred.
He fell asleep at the wheel and, in a panic, mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake when he realized he was about to collide with pedestrians, stated Inspector P.B. Jhala. Before surrendering, Vaghasia had his brother-in-law discharged and sent him and his sister back to Rajkot.
The accused has been booked under the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita and the Motor Vehicle Act in the FIR filed by Ranjitsinh Bhalgariya, whose family was involved in the accident. Ranjitsinh’s wife, Jeevu, sustained injuries to her head and back, while his son, Pritraj, suffered injuries to his head, abdomen, chest, and limbs. The police noted that the victims are recovering well under medical care. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the speeding car hitting the mother and son. DeshGujarat
