Surat: In yet another case showcasing how social media can be harmful for teenagers, a minor Hindu girl befriended another minor from a Muslim community and was later manipulated and abducted by the boy.
According to the information, a 16-year-old girl from Laksana village went missing mysteriously from home around 2:30 PM; her mobile phone was also switched off, causing panic among the family. However, the girl returned late at night. When her mother inquired about her whereabouts, the girl revealed that she had been friends with the boy for a year. They had first connected on Snapchat and then started talking on Instagram. On Sunday afternoon, the boy took her to the Tapi riverside on a bike, where he kissed her and made indecent demands. When the girl refused, the boy left her near her house.
After hearing her daughter’s story, the mother approached the Sarthana police station and filed a complaint. The accused was detained, and it was revealed that he himself was a 17-year-old minor. The police are conducting further investigations, but the case highlights the dangers of providing minors access to social media without proper supervision. DeshGujarat
